Salvia Megan’s Magic 

Growing to about 80cm high this little Salvia will knock your socks off.

Salvia Ignition Purple

Looking for an explosion of purple in your garden?

This hardy dry tolerant salvia literally ignites colour and movement to a garden or pot.

Once it bangs into flower in late Spring Ignition Purple refires and refires, flower continuously into the last warm days of autumn.

This is a compact fast growing performer, It looks amazing planted with yellow, silver, or grey flowering, foliage plants.

Plant Ignition Purple in pots in the garden plant it anywhere you have space, it will bounce out at you and lure butterflies, bees and joy to your special space.

It will take full sun, and is also happy with a bit of dappled shade.

Clean up and prune coming into spring, feeding at this time is also beneficial. This is a plant that doesn’t a lot of feeding, once a year is just fine.

Buddleia Cranrazz

Such a glorious plant! Smells like sweet lilac, these cranberry coloured long flowering panicles  are butterfly magnets. Colourful and totally deliciously scented, if you can’t see it in the garden you’ll delight in discovering by its sugary scent.

Cranrazz is a tight tidy version of a beautiful family of plants, Buddelia. This version is fabulous, growing into a round shrub about 1.5m by 1.5m. 

Happy to live in our tough SA climate, dry tolerant and hardy give Cranrazz full sun or a bit of light shade.

Looks amazing as an informal hedge, plant in groups or tuck into the back of flowering beds for big impact. 

Well behaved, feed in spring and watch it burst into bloom late summer and into autumn.

Kangaroo Paw 
Yellow Gem.

This is the Big Roo of the Kangaroo Paws.
Anigozanthos - Yellow Gem - can reach up to 2metres when in flower.

The Impressive size lends it to being worked into the back of garden beds or off into the distance.

Rising up and out Yellow Gem planted in bold groups will really jump (hop?) out from the landscape.

The flowering stems are very branched and floriferous, the yellow “paw” is set off dramatically from the red coloured flower stem. What a dramatic floral piece for an arrangement.

Feed using an organic all purpose in late winter and at the end of summer.

Cut back when flowers have finished..

Enduring Summer Red

Kniphofia  ‘Poco Orange’

If  you’re looking to bring honey eating birds and beautiful vivid colour to your garden, make space for Kniphofia poco orange.

This is a dwarf form of Kniphofia and behaves perfectly in the garden.

It grows in sweet clumps of about 30cm high.

The colour of the flowers is truly vibrant and this works to attract your eye, contrast with blue flowering plants or use in dark coloured pots and planters for full on impact.

For Impressive effect Kniphofia is best planted in swathes, groups or borders. 

You’ll get months of flowering value from Poco Orange - 

It is a perennial plant so you may find it retreats over the cold winter to return in spring. 

Give it a good feed then (spring) and watch it plump and build up for another year of flower and garden drama.

Cordyline
Electric Pink

Dramatic and Electric star will add colourful  interest to your pots and garden. A hardy plant it can create both smart, sharp design or soft pretty impact in your garden. This form stays compact and will not form a trunk, it grows to about 1.5m high.

Chocolate, raspberry and soft caramels colours stripe the leaves, they are fine and strappy,  For full sun to light shade positions. Plant this fabulous Cordyline in containers, combine them with other striking plant shapes and colours.  Importantly, plant them. Cordyline Electric Star is water thrifty and perfectly suited to South Australian gardens.

Dwarf Agapanthus 
Snowball and Baby Pete.

Both of these fabulous colour options White (Snowball) Blue ( Baby Pete) are dwarf form of the agapanthus.

Characteristically they are super hardy, non fuss rewarding plants. 

Both will grow to a clump of about 50cm.

A unique and extraordinary attribute of these dwarf Aggies is that they flower and flower. 

When they’re done, they don’t set seed. So they are non invasive.

Fabulous for edging garden beds, create large drifts for colour over hot summer days, fill pots and containers to the brim. 

They are beautiful version of a basic bread and butter plant.

Rhaphiolepis ‘Oriental Rose.’  

What a Cracker Jack plant!

Rhaphiolepis, or the Indian hawthorn are sturdy plants.

This form is stunning.

When it’s in flower from spring into summer it is smothered from head to toe.

It is a pink flower bomb! Growing to only 1.5m high makes it a perfect small compact hedge or little barrier. 

Very suited to South Australian conditions as once settled it requires very little water, tolerates pretty harsh conditions and will tolerate light frosts.

It’s a handsome, high performing plant when it’s not in flower and just a damn show off when it is..

JANUARY WHAT'S HOT

Crepe Myrtle
Enduring Summer

A smaller growing Crepe Myrtle. Enduring Summer will give that bubbly vivid colour and impact without the tower height of a full tree.

This makes it the ideal choice for informal hedging and group plantings.

Use it to tier under and around larger crepe myrtles and it’s a excellent performer in container plantings.

Flowering commences early in the summer and it will continue right through to autumn. The early spring foliage is a warm welcoming red and turns to glossy green as the leaves allow the flowers to take centre stage.

Super hardy, Enduring Summer is a delightful version of a South Australian favourite, the Crepe Myrtle.  

Compact 1.5m x 1.5m                                      

Tolerates heat and dry, deciduous and arty looking over the winter.

Pennisetum rubrum.

A really popular and loved grass, as it is so striking. Planted en masse, swathes of luscious maroon blades form elegant and graceful clusters that will move and shiver with the slightest breath of a breeze.

Plumes feathery and rosey coloured create interest and delight these long fluffy (flowering) wands, arch and wave from the body of the grass. 

This pennisetum is safe to plant as it is non invasive it’s quick to establish and looks fabulous in the garden, in pots or in huge plantings and makes big impact!

Keep the water and tucker up to while it’s establishing and then it’s pretty well set, for fun and garden enjoyment.

Sea Lavender

What at little beauty this plant is! Super tough and will fill your garden with

Waves of purple colour. It’s large luscious lettuce like leaves are sturdy and the plant resilient. Once flowering begins in the late spring it will continue through the months while the weather is warm. 

The Limonium is a small growing clumping plant, when flowering it will be about 300mm high.

It works beautifully in group plantings and is complemented well with greys and pink colours. It looks amazing planted with Cotelydon and Erigeron spindrift. 

Use it to edge borders, fill spaces and containers.

Sea Lavenders are loved by butterflies, it will bring them to your summer garden.

DECEMBER WHAT'S HOT

Perpetual Peace 
White Agapanthus.

White is a wonderful colour to use in the garden, particularly in summer.

Cool colours calm our eye, chill down the garden and bring a sense of tranquility to our outdoor spaces. White is the only “colour” we can see at night, when the evening temperatures keep us outdoors it makes sense to use a lot of summer white in the garden.

Perpetual Peace is a fabulous option in the agapanthus range. It’s a dwarf growing plant so perfect for trimming the edges of the garden, lining the driveway and filling gaps and containers.

It’s super tough, dry tolerant and once it begins flowering it doesn’t stop for MONTHS. It’s unbelievable, a repeat flowering Aggie. it starts in late spring and goes right through to into depths of autumn.
One of the many valuable attributes of Perpetual Peace is that it makes unviable seed, no threat to our bushlands and natural open spaces.

his is a terrific variety of Rhaphiolepis - Oriental pearl is tough and super hardy, it makes a perfect hedge particularly in challenging positions. The dark leathery green leaves are compact and the plant makes a general rounded shape of about 1m high and wide.

Oriental pearl bursts into full white bloom in spring creating an impressive show.

The Blue Pearl is an evergreen Blueberry.

Rhapolepis
Snow Maiden

Is one of the best alternatives to English Box. It’s faster growing, more adaptable, disease resistant and dry tolerant.
Truthfully it’s one of Carl Heyne’s top ten favourite plants. 

This premium selection of the rhapholepis family is glorious in all stages. with its very dark green foliage that reflects light, bouncing shining shadows through the plant, the veins and stems have a very classy light russet colour that offsets the dark foliage superbly. The copper coloured new growth on Snow Maiden is only surpassed when the plant bursts into an amazing display of early spring flowering. 

Growing to around a metre in height, these plants are available in 20cm pots that for hedge planting we’d suggest you space at 3 to 4 per metre. This will give you a full impressive hedge within three years, with good garden sense and nurture.
